Piqray (Alpelisib)tablets is a prescription medication used in combination with the medication Fulvestrant to treat women who have gone through menopause and men who have hormone receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative advanced breast cancer or breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic), with an abnormal phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase catalytic subunit alpha (PIK3CA) gene, and whose disease has progressed on or after endocrine therapy. Alpelisib belongs to a class of drugs known as kinase inhibitors. This medication works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Piqray Side Effects:

The most common side effects of Piqray includes change in taste, decreased weight, diarrhea, dry skin, loss of appetite, nausea, tiredness and vomiting. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration and kidney problems. Drink enough fluids and inform your doctor right away. Inform your doctor if you have any side effects that are serious including symptoms of lung problems such as shortness of breath, cough, and chest pain. Your prescribed dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Piqray must be used regularly to get the most benefit from it.

Piqray Precautions:

You should not take Piqray if you are allergic to Alpelisib or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the other medications you are taking including OTC and herbal medications. Inform your doctor if you have diabetes, liver disease, or a history of severe skin reactions. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, especially increased blood sugar. This medication can affect fertility in both males and females. Piqray can be absorbed through the skin and lungs and may harm an unborn baby. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant to planning to become pregnant. Women should have a pregnancy test before starting this medication. Men and women should use a reliable form of birth control while taking this medication and for one week after stopping treatment. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended during treatment and for one week after the last dose.
