It is also used to treat pain and inflammation following a surgical operation in dogs. Rimadyl belongs to a group of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the activity of an enzyme called cyclooxygenase, leading to a reduction in pain and other signs of inflammation.

Rimadyl Side Effects:

Some side effects may occur with this drug, some of which can be serious, although most dogs don't develop these side effects. These side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, black, tarry, or bloody stool, constipation, fatigue, weakness, gastrointestinal ulcers, sores in the mouth, sudden weight gain, muscle cramps, seizures, abdominal pain, behavioral changes, increased or decreased thirst, urinary abnormalities in terms of color, smell, or frequency, yellowness of the eyes or skin, body rash, body itching, swelling of the face, and difficulty in breathing. Rimadyl Directions:

Please consult your Vet for the appropriate dose of this medication for your dog, as it usually depends on various factors such as the dog's weight. Only use this medication as instructed by your Veterinarian. You can also find more information about the use of this medication on the pack or leaflet. It is a chewable medication that is palatable. However, it is best chewed with food to avoid stomach discomfort and make the dog willing to take the medication. Ensure your dog doesn't miss a dose, and if you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the normal dosing routine. Store this medication at room temperature (less than 30⁰C) and keep it away from light and moisture and out of reach of pets and children.

Rimadyl Precautions:

Before giving this drug to your dog, ensure you inform your Veterinarian about any medical conditions that your dog previously or currently has, including the following:
• Allergic (Hypersensitivity) reaction to Rimadyl, any of its inactive ingredients, or any other drug in general;
• Bleeding disorders;
• Gastrointestinal problems such as stomach ulcers;
• Heart disease;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease.

Caution and adequate monitoring are advised when using this medication in dogs less than six weeks of age, as they are at higher risk of developing harmful effects of this drug. Always wash your hands before and after handling this drug. Do not use this drug in other animals or in humans. Always be on the lookout for signs of side effects of this drug in your dog. This medication should be avoided in pregnant or breastfeeding dogs as its safety has not been established in these sets of dogs. Avoid the use of another nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug in your drug while using Rimadyl to prevent the risk of developing serious side effects.
