Tobradex is available as 5 mL suspension and contains 3 mg/mL tobramycin and 0.5 mg/mL dexamethasone. The usual dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours while you are awake. During the initial 48 hours, your doctor may increase the dose to 1 drop every 2 hours. Do not use this medication for more than 24 days. Wash your hands before using the medication and shake well before use. Stop using the bottle 4 weeks after first opening, to prevent infections. Tobradex does not require any special temperature storage conditions. Keep the bottle tightly closed. The medication should be kept in a safe place out of reach of children.

Tobradex Precautions

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Tobradex, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You should also not take Tobradex and consult your doctor, if you think you have any type of infection of the eye as corticosteroids can make the infection worse, have a sticky discharge from the eye, have a red eye that has not been seen by the doctor. Also, tell your doctor before using the medication, if you have a disorder causing a thinning of the eye tissues, such as rheumatoid arthritis, Fuch’s dystrophy or following a corneal transplant as corticosteroids may cause delay in the healing of your eye wound, are diabetic, experience blurred vision, are using another antibiotic treatment (including oral drugs), are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Tobradex, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, other eye drops or eye ointments. If you wear soft contact lenses remove them before using Tobradex and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. If you experience temporary blurred vision after using Tobradex you should not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
