Heartgard Dog Side Effects:

Like every other medication, Heartgard Dog has its side effects. These include vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue (Lethargy), loss of appetite, dilation of the pupil, incoordination, drooling, and seizures. Consult your Veterinarian for the appropriate dose of this medication for your dog as it may vary depending on your dog's weight amongst other factors. This medication should be administered once a month. Administer each dose of this medication with food to your dog for better absorption and ensure it is chewed and not swallowed. If your dog swallows this medication rather than chew it, you may need to re-administer the dose. If replacing another heartworm medication with Heartgard Dog, the first dose of Heartgard Dog must be given within a month (30 days) after the last dose of the former medication. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it away from sunlight and moisture and out of children's reach.

Heartgard Dog Precautions:

Ensure your dog is tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment with this medication as it is not effective against adult heartworms. If your dog is infected, it must be treated with other antiparasitic medications to remove adult heartworms and microfilariae before administering Heartgard Dog. This medication should not be used in humans. This medication is also not recommended for Dogs younger than 6 weeks of age.
