Atrovent Information:
Atrovent (generic name: Ipratropium Bromide) is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as the prevention of bronchospasm, and the treatment of bronchitis and emphysema. Atrovent contains the active ingredient Ipratropium Bromide, which is an anti-cholinergic agent, which helps to treat the symptoms of all of the aforementioned illnesses. Asthma and COPD usually cause symptoms such as feeling heavy in the chest, coughing, struggling to breathe well, sometime painful airways and losing breath easily. Bronchitis and emphysema also cause similar symptoms but may also include severe wheezing and shortness of breath. Atrovent is to be used with an inhaler device, and the drug is used as a maintenance treatment in adults and children over 12 years of age. The medication cannot be used for the treatment of an attack that has already started, but is for the use of prevention of future attacks. Atrovent is a strong asthma drug, and is usually only prescribed if other forms of asthma medication have been tried and are unsuccessful.
