Rinvoq (Upadacitinib) is a prescription medication which is used to treat adults with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis who have either not responded or could not tolerate Methotrexate. Rinvoq is a biologic DMARD. Upadacitinib is a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of the enzymes called Janus kinases, which are involved in setting up processes that lead to inflammation. Rinvoq blocks the effects of these enzymes which brings the inflammation in the joints under control. This helps to decrease pain, tenderness and swelling in the joints. The standard dose of Rinvoq is 15 mg taken once daily with or without food. Rinvoq does not work right away. It can take about two to eight weeks before patients start feeling better and it can take three to six months to feel the maximum effect of this medication. If the dose is changed, it can take two to eight weeks to feel the effects.
