Beyaz (generic name: Drospirenone/Ethinyl estradiol/Levomefolate) is a birth control pill that is based on the approved product “Yaz”. Drospirenone and Ethinyl estradiol are hormones that prevent ovulation, and Levomefolate is a type of B vitamin that helps to prevent birth defects that could occur if pregnancy occurs while taking or shortly after stopping birth control pills. Beyaz works in three ways: it prevents eggs from being released from the ovaries (ovulation), thickens the cervical mucus to deter sperm from entering the uterus and also thins the lining of the womb to prevent a fertilised egg from attaching. Beyaz is also prescribed for the treatment of acne in women aged 14 and over, as well as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) which includes symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Although the birth control pill is a method of contraceptive, like all contraceptives it is not 100% safe and is noted as 99% effective, so it is advised that other methods of protection be used in addition for added protection, such as condoms. You should swallow Beyaz whole with a glass of water. Beyaz should be taken at the same time every day, and should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat. Unlike single hormone pills, Beyaz is designed to be taken every day without any breaks.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Beyaz, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. If you vomit within 2 hours of taking any pill, you may not be protected and so should take another. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease, history of jaundice, history of stroke, blood clot or circulation problems, diabetes, migraines, kidney or liver disease, breast or uterine cancers, high cholesterol, epilepsy or other seizure disorders or depression. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Beyaz, including antibiotics which commonly prevents Beyaz from working and can result in pregnancy.
