Epiduo Gel Information:
Epiduo (generic name: Adapalene/Benzoyl Peroxide) is a topical drug which is prescribed for the treatment of acne vulgaris. It is used in more extreme acne cases, and is usually only prescribed if other medications have failed. Adapalene is a type of vitamin A, and it works by helping the skin to renew itself more easily. Benzoyl Peroxide is an anti-bacterial. Epiduo is very effective in combating acne, and patients generally see most of the acne cleared within 6 months of treatment. Acne occurs when the pores in the skin become clogged with natural oils, but is also sometimes caused by a hormone imbalance which is responsible for causing the oil glands to produce too much oil. Epiduo reduces the amount of oil being produced and therefore less clogging occurs. When pores are clogged, bacteria gets stuck in the pores which can cause flare ups and redness of the skin.
Epiduo Gel Side Effects:
As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Epiduo including dry, flakey or scaly skin during the first 4 weeks. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.
Epiduo Gel Directions:
You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Epiduo to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Epiduo comes in gel form. It is a topical drug meaning it should be applied to the skin. Do not ingest Epiduo gel. Epiduo should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.
Epiduo Gel Precautions:
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Epiduo, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including any other skin conditions. Although unlikely, you must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Epiduo, including any vitamin supplements containing vitamin A.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
