Lidoderm Patch Information:

Lidoderm Patch (generic name: Lidocaine) is a drug which is prescribed to relieve nerve pain after shingles (infection with the herpes zoster virus). This type of pain is called post-herpetic neuralgia. Lidocaine helps to reduce sharp, burning or aching pain as well as discomfort caused by skin areas that are overly sensitive to touch. Lidocaine belongs to a class of drugs known as local anesthetics. It works by causing a temporary loss of feeling in the area where you apply the patch which allows the patient to feel less pain for short periods of time. Shingles is an infection of a nerve and the area of skin around it. It is caused by the herpes varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox and symptoms include itchy, red spots on the skin.

Lidoderm Patch Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Lidoderm Patch including mild irritation or redness of the skin where the patch was applied, numbness where the patch is applied. More serious side effects may include uneven heartbeats, drowsiness, confusion, tremors, seizures and blurred vision. If you experience any side effects you must seek immediate medical attention for safety.
