Frontline Information:
Frontline (generic name: Fipronil) is a drug which is prescribed for the fleas on cats and dogs only. It works by both preventing flea and tick infestation and eliminating existing infestation by fleas and ticks and is part of a treatment strategy for Flea Allergy Dermatitis in cats and dogs. It is also effective against biting lice and it is effective against fleas for up to 5 weeks and ticks for up to 1 month. It also controls lice within 48 hours. Routine treatment is advised to prevent flea infestations. Frontline is the most common flea treatment recommended by vets. Fipronil belongs to the phenylpyrazole chemical family. Fipronil was first registered for use in the United States in 1996.
Frontline Side Effects:
As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Frontline including drowsiness, irritation, itching and hair loss where Frontline was applied. More serious side effects may include vomiting, increased salivation, changes in heart rate, decreased appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, muscle tremors, decreased co-ordination and convulsions. If your pet experiences any side effects you must seek immediate medical attention from your vet for safety.
Frontline Directions:
You should follow the instructions of the vet who prescribed Frontline for your pet, and there will also be dosage and information on the pack. Apply to your pet’s skin as directed by your vet. Frontline should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat.
