Champix Information:
Champix (generic name Varenciniline Tartate) is a prescription medication used in combination with supportive counselling to help motivated adults quit smoking. Champix helps to relieve the craving and withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping smoking. Although Champix does not contain nicotine, but it has been shown to affect nicotine receptors in the brain that is believed to be most related to smoking addiction. Champix affects nicotine receptors in two opposite ways: by acting like a weaker version of nicotine and also by blocking nicotine from getting to the receptor because it binds more tightly. You are more likely to stop smoking if you are motivated to stop. Your healthcare provider can provide advice, support and sources of further information to help ensure your attempt to stop smoking is successfully.
