Demadex Information:

Demadex (Torsemide) is a diuretic drug used to treat fluid overload due to heart failure, kidney disease, and liver disease. This can lessen symptoms such as shortness of breath and swelling in your arms, legs, and abdomen. It is also used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Torsemide causes excretion of sodium chloride and water by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the ascending loop of Henle and distal collecting tubule. The effect is caused by blocking the chloride-binding site of the Na+/K+/2Cl- cotransport mechanism. Torsemide is known as a "water pill" because it causes you to make more urine. This helps your body get rid of extra water and salt.

Demadex Side Effects:

The more common side effects that can occur with Torsemide include frequent urination, headache, cough, sore throat, hearing loss, ringing in your ears, upset stomach, constipation, diarrhea, weakness, and excessive thirstIf these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. If they are severe or did not go away, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Dizziness or headache may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If either of these effects lasts or gets worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Demadex may also cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Inform your doctor right away if you have any of these uncommon serious side effects: muscle cramps, weakness, unusual tiredness, confusion, severe dizziness, fainting, drowsiness, unusual dry mouth/thirst, nausea, vomiting, and irregular heartbeat. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficult breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Demadex Directions:

Demadex should be taken by mouth as directed by your doctor, with or without food, usually once daily. It is best to avoid taking this medication within 4 hours of your bedtime to prevent having to get up to urinate. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than directed by your doctor. Use this medication accordingly and at the same time each day as directed. Keep taking it even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. Generally, it may take 4-6 weeks, and sometimes up to 12 weeks, before the full blood pressure-lowering effect is seen. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. If you are taking Torsemide to control high blood pressure, tell your doctor if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase. If you also take other drugs to lower your cholesterol such as cholestyramine, use Torsemide at least 1 hour before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow all directions on your prescription label, read all medication guides and use the medicine exactly as directed.

Demadex Precautions:

Before using Demadex, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially of:
• Diabetes. It may rarely affect your blood sugar but check your blood sugar regularly as directed and share the results with your doctor. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet;
• Gout;
• Heart disease;
• Inability to make urine;
• Kidney problems, unless you are taking Torsemide for oedema related to kidney disease;
• Liver problems, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis (unless you are taking Torsemide for oedema related to liver disease)

Torsemide may reduce the potassium level in your blood. Your doctor may instruct you to add potassium-rich foods to your diet (such as bananas, and orange juice) or prescribe potassium supplements to prevent potassium loss. Ask your doctor for more details. Torsemide may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using cannabis. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's instructions. Some products have ingredients that could raise your blood pressure or worsen your swelling. Tell your pharmacist what products you are using, and ask how to use them safely, especially cough-and-cold products, and pain killers such as ibuprofen.
The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
