Nuvaring Vaginal Ring Information:

NuvaRing (generic name: Etonogestrel/ Ethinyl Estradiol Vaginal Ring) is an easy and effective method of birth control, it is also an approved first hormonal vaginal contraceptive ring in the market. Nuvaring is a ring which is inserted into the vagina, and releases progestin and estrogen which are two hormones. The release of the hormones prevents eggs from being released from the ovaries, and therefore prevents pregnancy. Similar to the birth control pill, they also cause the cervical mucus to thicken making it harder for sperm to enter the uterus, and cause the lining of the uterus to become thinner so that it is more difficult for an egg to attach. The ring cannot go too far into the body as the cervix prevents this.

Nuvaring Vaginal Ring Side Effects:

Nuvaring may cause dark As with any medication you may experience side effects including nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, freckles on the face, changes in weight, changes to appetite, increase in body hair, loss of head hair, vaginal itching, increased vaginal discharge, changes to periods, changes in libido, headaches, dizziness and fatigue. More serious side effects may include numbness, body weakness, sudden headaches, pain behind eyes, jaundice, darker urine, lump in breasts, depression and swelling to hands and feet. Nuvaring Vaginal Ring Directions:

NuvaRing is a ring which is inserted into the vagina. You must follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed it, and there will also be instructions on the pack. It must be left in the vagina for 3 weeks, and then you must have one week without a ring inserted at which time most women will menstruate. The ring must not be removed for more than 3 hours. Unopened NuvaRings should be stored at room temperature away from direct light and heat.

Nuvaring Vaginal Ring Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of NuvaRing you must not use it and should consult your doctor. You must also consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions as NuvaRing is not suitable for patients with a history of stroke or blood clots, abnormal bleeding from the vagina, heart disorders, history of jaundice caused by birth control products, liver disease, hormone related cancers and circulatory problems. You must also consult your doctor before using the NuvaRing if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, gallbladder disease, high cholesterol, epilepsy, irregular menstrual cycles, uterus problems, bladder or rectum problems or any fibrocystic breast disease. Nuvaring may cause harm to an unborn baby or cause birth defects so it should not be used if you fall pregnant. When you first start using NuvaRing you should use other forms of contraception such as condoms for full protection. Hormone drugs can increase the risk of stroke and heart attacks. You should consult your doctor if you are taking other medications as they may affect the NuvaRing including acetaminophen, griseofulvin, rifampin, modafinil, seizure medications, barbiturates and HIV/AIDs medications.
