Estrace (Estradiol)

Estrace Information:

Estrace (generic name: Estradiol) is a drug which is prescribed for the symptoms of the menopause. Symptoms of the menopause include hot flushes, vaginal dryness, vaginal itching, itching and irritation. The active ingredient is estradiol and noerthindrone. These are both hormones that occur naturally in the body. Estradiol is a form of estrogen which is a female sex hormone that is normally produced by the ovaries, and is necessary for many natural bodily processes. When a women goes through the menopause the hormone levels drop dramatically, which can cause the symptoms previously mentioned as well as thinning of the bones, known as osteoporosis. This is because estrogen plays a big part in the breakdown and regeneration of bone tissue, so without estrogen in the body naturally the process weakens. The replaced estrogen helps the bone regeneration process to continue as normal, and helps to eradicate or weaken menopausal symptoms. It is available in two forms: Vaginal Cream and Tablet. Currently we are offering quality Estrace tablets from Canada manufactured by Acerus Pharma and generic Estradiol manufactured by Lupin. The Estrace Vaginal Cream comes from the US manufactured by Actavis.

Estrace Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Estrace including nausea, vomiting, tenderness or enlargement of the breasts, freckles, darkening of the facial skin, loss of scalp hair, vaginal itching or discharge and changes in menstrual periods. More serious side effects may include unusual vaginal bleeding, chest pain, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, sudden numbness or weakness, sudden severe headache, confusion, vision problems, problems with speech or balance, stabbing chest pain, sudden cough or wheezing, rapid breathing, loss of appetite, a lump in the breast, pain in the stomach or jaundice. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Estrace Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Estrace to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Estrace comes in tablet and cream form. Never crush, chew or break tablets unless directed to do so, as this may cause for too much of a drug to be released at once which could have undesirable effects. Estrace should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat. Long term use of Estrace could increase the risk of breast cancer. Taking Progestin while using Esatrace may help to lower the risk of uterine cancer.

Estrace Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Estrace, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including liver or kidney disease, any type of hormone dependent cancer, a recent history of heart attack or stroke, if you are pregnant, any history of blood clots, endometriosis, lupus, gallbladder disease, underactive thyroid, asthma, epilepsy or migraines. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Estrace, including blood thinners, cimetidine, carbamazepine, Phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifampin, ritonavir, St John’s Wort, antibiotics or antifungals. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Estrace may cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
