Cosopt Information:
Cosopt (generic name: Dorzolamide Hydrochloride 2% and Timolol Maleate 0.5%) is an approved combination eye drops prescribed for the treatment of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition where fluid in the eye increases pressure, and this can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerves which in turn leads to loss of vision or blindness. There are many different types of glaucoma, depending on the underlying cause of the damage to the optic nerves. Dorzolamide works by reducing the amount of fluid in the eye, which helps to decrease pressure in the eye, while Timolol is a beta blocker which also reduces pressure built up in the eye. Cosopt is used to treat increased pressure in the eye and open angle glaucoma in patients who cannot use, or have been unresponsive, to other glaucoma medications. Pressure in the eye is called ocular hypertension. Symptoms of pressure in the eye can include soreness, itching and discomfort in the eyes. The eyes may also water due to the increased amount of fluid in the eyes. Cosopt reduces many symptoms of glaucoma.
