Frova (Frovatriptan)

Frova Information:

Frova (generic name: Frovatriptan) is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of migraine symptoms. The active ingredient in Frova is Frovatriptan. Frovatriptan works by narrowing the blood vessels surrounding the brain. The swelling of the blood vessels in the brain is what causes the immense pain when a migraine occurs. Frova also blocks the release of substances from nerve endings that cause more pain, and interrupts the sending of certain pain “messages” within the brain, as well as reducing other symptoms such as sensitivity to light and sound and nausea. Frova is not directed for common headaches, it is only for the treatment of migraines. Frova cannot prevent future migraine attacks but it can be taken once a migraine has started and it works in less than an hour for fast relief of the symptoms, which may include severe headache, sensitivity to light and fatigue. The relevant dosage will be prescribed depending on the severity of the individual patient’s migraine attacks. Migraines can be crippling for some patients and can affect work and personal life, but Frova can help to live a more normal lifestyle.

Frova Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Frova including mild headache, feeling warm or cold, dry mouth, upset stomach, bone or joint pain, pressure r heavy feeling in the chest, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, or warmth/tingling of the skin. More serious side effects may include feeling pain or tightness in the jaw or neck, chest pain, sudden numbness or weakness, sudden severe headache, confusion, problems with vision or speech, sudden or severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, numbness or tingling or a blue appearance to the hands or feet. If you experience any side effects you must seek medical attention immediately for safety.

Frova Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Frova to you. Directions and dosage information can also be found on the pack or leaflet inside the pack. Frova comes in tablet form. You should normally take one tablet with a full glass of water, and a second tablet two hours after the first, however do check the dosage with your doctor. Do not crush, chew or break tablets as this could result in too much of the drug being released at once, which could have undesirable effects. Frova should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat.

Frova Precautions:

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Frova, you should avoid taking it and inform your doctor. You must consult your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, a heart rhythm disorder, coronary artery disease, angina, problems with blood circulation, a history of heart disease or heart attacks, a history of strokes, ischemic bowel disease or headaches that appear different to usual migraines. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Frova, including propanolol or any antidepressants. It is important that you inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding as Frova may cause harm to unborn and new born babies.
