Timoptic XE Side Effects:

The common side effects associated with Timoptic XE include stinging, tearing, burning, or discomfort when first applied. If your side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.

If you experience one or more of the following more severe side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately: wheezing, chest pain, trouble breathing, slow heartbeats, lightheadedness, muscle weakness, depression, confusion, hallucinations, numbness, severe stinging or burning, eye swelling, redness, discomfort, crusting or drainage, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or see halos.

Timoptic XE Directions

Follow the directions for using Timoptic XE (Timolol Maleate Gellan Solution) provided by your doctor. To use Timoptic XE: First, wash your hands. Tilt your head back and with your index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Drop the Timoptic XE into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Immediately use your finger to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eye (unless you recently had eye surgery) and continue to apply pressure for 1 or 2 minutes after using Timoptic XE. Do not blink and keep your eyes closed for 1 or 2 minutes. Remove excess Timoptic XE around your eye with a clean tissue, being careful not to touch your eye. Wash your hands to remove any Timoptic XE that may be on them. To prevent germs from entering your Timoptic XE, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface including your eye. Keep the container tightly closed. Store Timoptic XE at room temperature, away from heat and light.

Timoptic XE Precautions:

Do not take Timoptic XE if you are allergic to timolol or have: asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, any serious heart conditions, severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that cause you to faint. To make sure the medication is safe for you to use, be sure to tell your doctor if you have ever had: heart disease, stroke, blood clots, circulation problems, breathing problems, diabetes, thyroid disorder, narrow-angle glaucoma, allergies, or a muscle disorder.

It isn’t known how Timoptic XE will affect an unborn baby, but it can pass into breast milk and could harm a nursing infant. You shouldn’t breastfeed while on this medication. Children younger than 2 years old should not use this medication.

If you miss a dose of Timoptic XE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses of Timoptic XE at once.
