Premarin Vaginal Cream Information:

Premarin Vaginal Cream (generic name: Conjugated Estrogens) is a approved therapy for the treatment of menopause symptoms including irritation and burning in the vagina and vagina dryness. It works by actually treating the underlying cause of the symptoms, rather than just treating the symptoms. Premarin cream is usually prescribed before any oral medications will be considered, as it carries less side effects and risks. It also helps to restore the tissue in and around the vagina. The cream contains the female hormone estrogen. In women who go through the menopause, the estrogen levels drop which can cause uncomfortable symptoms in and around the vagina. Premarin cream relieves these symptoms by releasing a small amount of the hormone into the blood through the vagina. Premarin cream may also be used to treat painful intercourse caused by the symptoms of the menopause. It can be applied at any time of day or night as and when required for quick relief of itching and burning. Because it treats the cause, it is not required to be used forever and can be stopped once symptoms improve.

Premarin Vaginal Cream Side Effects:

As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Premarin cream including back pain, bloating, breast pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, coughing, changes in sex drive, abnormal vaginal bleeding, feeling light headed, mild hair loss, mild vaginal burning, mild itching or irritation, muscle aches or cramps, nausea, sore throat, stomach pain, trouble sleeping, vomiting, weakness and weight changes. More serious side effects may include tight chest, breast lumps, changes in vision or speech, confusion, dark urine, depression, fainting, fever, chills, persistent sore throat, mood changes, weakness, pain in the abdomen, severe dizziness, severe vomiting or nausea and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). If you suffer from any side effects you should seek immediate medical attention for safety.

Premarin Vaginal Cream Directions:

You should follow the instructions given by the doctor who prescribed Premarin cream to you, and there will also be dosage and directions on the pack. Premarin cream is a topical drug which is applied directly to the vaginal area. It can be applied at any time as and when required. Wash you hands after applying Premarin cream. Premarin cream should be stored at room temperature away from heat, direct sunlight and moisture.

Premarin Vaginal Cream Precautions:

Do not take Premarin cream if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, and consult your doctor. It isimportnat to tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions including tobacco use, famiy or personal history of high cholesterol, blood pressure or breast cancer, asthma, history of allergy to medications or food, or if you have liver or kidney disease. Premarin cream is not recommended for use of patients who have a history of heart attack, stroke or blood clots, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or any type or breast or uterine cancer. You should consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as these may interact with Premarin cream including clarithromycin, erythromycin, itraconazle, ketoconazole and ritonavir. Although unlikely after the menopause, you must tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding. Premarin cream increases the risk of stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure and other similar problems, especially if you smoke. Before using Premarin cream you must undergo a complete medical exam and you will be re-evaluatied every 3 to 6 months.
