Zofran Information:

Zofran (Ondansetron) is a medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting, primarily caused by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment. When going through chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery, a chemical called serotonin is released in the body. Serotonin stimulates certain receptors in the brain and the gut, and sends nerve messages to the vomiting center of the brain, triggering nausea and vomiting. Zofran works by blocking the serotonin from stimulating the receptors, and in turn blocks messages from being sent to the vomiting center. This then reduces nausea and vomiting.
