Urso Information:
Urso (generic name Ursodeoxycholic Acid) is a medication used for the treatment and management of cholestatic liver disease. Urso contains ursodiol or Ursodeoxycholic Acid which is a naturally occurring bile acid found in small quantities in the normal human bile. In patients who have cholestatic liver disease, the release and flow of bile through the bile ducts is decreased. Urso helps to increase the ursodiol in the bile and causes an increase in bile flow. This medication also works by replacing the toxic bile acids that can destroy liver tissue. Symptoms of cholestatic liver disease include dark urine, jaundice, light-colored stools, and generalized itchiness. If you are diagnosed with any of the symptoms, your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your particular condition.
