Ocuflox Opht Information:

Ocuflox Ophthalmic Solution Information

Ocuflox (generic name ocufloxacin) is an antibiotic used to treat eye bacterial infections in adults and children over the age of one. Your doctor may prescribe it for bacterial conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers. Ocuflox belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. You can recognize fluoroquinolone by its medicinal ingredient, which ends in "-FLOXACIN." This medication does not cure your disease; it helps to control the bacterial infection. Therefore, it is essential to complete the entire prescribed course of Ocuflox, even if symptoms improve early. Symptoms of an eye infection may include redness, pain, swelling, discharge, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. If you experience these symptoms, your doctor will determine the most effective treatment.

Ocuflox Opht Side Effects:

As with any medication, there may be side effects from using Ocuflox. Some of the common side effects include:
• Dryness, redness, watering of the eye;
• Increased light sensitivity;
• Mild eye irritation, burning, or stinging;
• Red or puffy eyelids;
• Temporary blurred vision

Rare but serious side effects include:
• Eye pain, swelling, redness, severe discomfort, crusting, or drainage;
• Severe allergic reactions such as swelling, rash, or difficulty breathing;
• Severe burning, stinging, or irritation after use

If you experience any side effects (including those not listed here), stop using the medication and seek medical attention immediately.

Ocuflox Opht Directions:

You should follow the instructions of the doctor who prescribed Ocuflox to you. Directions and dosage information are on the product leaflet inside the package. Wash your hands before using the eye drops.

To apply the eye drops:
• Tilt your head slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop;
• Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down without blinking or squinting. Press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about 1 minute to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct;
• Use only the number of drops your doctor has prescribed. If you use more than one drop, wait about 5 minutes between drops;
• Wait at least 10 minutes before using any other eye drops your doctor has prescribed

When treating a corneal ulcer, you may need to wake up every 4 to 6 hours to use the medication. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully. You may notice a whitish buildup on the ulcer. This buildup is a sign that the medication is working and is not a harmful effect. This buildup should clear within a few days or weeks of treatment.

Shake the bottle gently before use. To prevent contamination, avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye. Wait at least 15 minutes after using this medication before putting in contact lenses. Store Ocuflox at 15-25°C, protected from light, and keep it out of reach of children.

Ocuflox Opht Precautions:

Do not use Ocuflox if you are allergic to ocufloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any ingredients in this medication. Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions to antibiotics or if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Ocuflox may cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.

Tell your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially:
• Corticosteroid eye drops;
• Medications for glaucoma or dry eye;
• Other antibiotics (oral or topical)

Avoid wearing contact lenses while using Ocuflox, especially if you have an active eye infection. This medication is not for use in viral or fungal eye infections. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after treatment, consult your healthcare provider immediately.
