Loprox Side Effects:
As with all medications, Loprox contains side effects as well. Common side effects of Loprox include mild burning, itching, and redness. Serious side effects of Loprox include unusual or severe itching, redness, burning, dryness, irritation of treated skin, and discoloration or other changes in the nails. If you experience any of these adverse effects stop taking this medication immediately and contact your physician.
Loprox Directions:
Take Loprox as prescribed to you by your physician. Additional information can be found on the packaging and on the leaflet inside. Loprox is available as a lubricant and a shampoo. Wash your hands before and after using this medication, unless you are using ciclopirox to treat a hand condition. When applying the cream, gel, or lotion, clean and dry the affected area, apply a small amount of the cream (usually twice daily) for 2 to 4 weeks. Follow your doctor's instructions. Do not use bandages or dressings that do not allow air to circulate (occlusive dressings) on areas treated with ciclopirox cream or lotion, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before wearing clothing to avoid covering or wiping off the application. Use lubricant at least 8 hours before washing/showering affected area. Wear loose-fitting clothing (preferably cotton). When using Loprox shampoo, wet the hair and apply approximately 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of the shampoo to the scalp. Up to 2 teaspoons (10 mL) may be used for long hair. Lather and leave on the hair and scalp for 3 minutes. A timer may be used. Treatment should be repeated twice per week for 4 weeks, with a minimum of 3 days between applications. If no improvement is seen after 4 weeks of treatment, contact your doctor. It may take up to 4 weeks before your symptoms improve after using Loprox cream, gel, lotion, or shampoo. Keep using the medicine as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse. Store all forms of this medicine at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Once a bottle of ciclopirox shampoo is opened, it should be used within 8 weeks. Keep out of reach of children.
Loprox Precautions:
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it, or any of its ingredients. There is little to no evidence showing whether Loprox causes fetal harm, however use of Loprox during pregnancy is not advised unless benefits outweigh risks. Loprox is topical thus it has little effect on breastmilk, however exercise caution when administering Loprox to nursing women. Before taking Loprox inform your physician of any underlying conditions including diabetes, epilepsy or other seizure disorders, a week immune system (caused by disease or other medicines), a condition for which steroid medications are used (including skin conditions and breathing disorders). Tell you doctor if you take other medications to avoid any negative interactions including over the counter prescriptions and vitamin supplements and herbal medicines. Tell your doctor if you take an inhaled or other topical steroid medicine, and seizure medicine. Ensure to avoid wearing tight clothing for the duration of this medication to allow for air circulation.
