Arimidex (generic name: Anastrozole) is a chemo drug which is prescribed for the treatment of breast cancer in women who are post-menopausal. It is a hormone treatment and belongs to the group of drugs called non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors. It is a first line chemotherapy drug and is used in patients with advanced breast cancer. Breast tumors generally need estrogen to grow in the body, and Arimidex works by lowering estrogen levels to prevent the growth of the cancerous cells in the breasts. Arimidex Side Effects:
As with any drug, there may be side effects from taking Arimidex including hot flushes, back pain, depression, changes in mood, feeling weak, sore throat, nausea, pain in the joints and stuff joints. More serious side effects may include feeling numb particularly on one side of the body, body weakness, sudden severe headache, swollen glands, swelling of the hands and/or feet, confusion, changes in vision or blurred vision and bone fractures.
